Plant of the month-Crepe Myrtle
Each month we will highlight a certain plant that is looking good or that we think deserves a bit of extra attention.
This month our eye turns to Crepe Myrtles ( Lagerstroemia indica cvs ). As far as small trees go it’s hard to think of anything hardier and prettier. Flowering over the summer months when not much else is they are a great addition to any garden.
There are a huge amount of varieties available with different coloured flowers and sizes. Also, now with the Diamonds in the Dark range you can even have a Crepe Myrtle with dark purple leaves.
In Autumn Crepe Myrtle leaves colour up to rich oranges and reds in the Highlands or anywhere with cool Autumn nights. As the trees age they reveal a lovely mottled bark which is highly attractive.
